10 Star Wars Easter Eggs and References
6 of 10 The Voice of BB-8
Comedians Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz were revealed to be the “Vocal Consultants” for BB-8, and apparently they produced his voice by playing around with a sound effects app on an iPad.
7 of 10 Ben
In the film we learn that Kylo Ren’s real name is Ben Solo. Ben is actually an alias Obi-Wan Kenobi used in A New Hope, and he had a big impact on both Han and Leia, so while it was never actually said, we’re assuming they named their son Ben in remembrance of Kenobi.
8 Of 10 Rey's and Luke's Connection
When Rey has her Force vision after touching Anakin/Luke's old lightsaber, if you listen closely you’ll hear some familiar sounds and voices.
- Darth Vader's breathing.
- Though distorted, Yoda's line "Its energy surrounds us and binds us" can be made out
- Luke yelling, "Nooo!" from when Darth Vader reveals he's his father in Empire Strikes back
- Obi-Wan Kenobi saying "Rey… these are your first steps." The "Rey" part is by Alec Guinness, which they got by editing down him saying "afraid" in A New Hope until it sounded right. The rest is by our Obi-Wan from the prequels, Ewan McGregor.
9 Of 10 Cameos
Greg Grunberg (Heroes) plays the bearded X-Wing pilot Snap Wexley.
Both Yayan Ruhian and Iko Uwais, who play Mad Dog and Rama in The Raid franchise, are among the Kanjuklub gang after Han Solo.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game Of Thrones) is a First Order Officer.
Dr. Kalonia, the doctor who tends to Chewbacca’s wounds, is played by Harriet Walter (Downton Abbey).
You know the song that plays when entering Maz Kanata’s castle? That’s sung by Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda and JJ Abrams himself.
Composer Michael Giacchino got to cameo as the Stormtrooper that delivers Poe Dameron to Kylo Ren.
10 Of 10 Star Wars Tradition
It’s a Star Wars movie tradition for someone to say, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” and this time it was Han Solo, who also said it in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.
